Living abroad can be exciting – new cultures, new languages, new experiences. But it’s not always easy.
Many expats experience loneliness, disorientation, or emotional exhaustion – sometimes months after moving, and often again after returning home.
Psychological Support for Expats and Returnees
Between Leaving and Arriving
When psychological support can help

- You feel disconnected or like you don’t truly belong
- You struggle with fatigue, irritability or emotional ups and downs
- You find it hard to build meaningful connections
- You miss “home” – but aren’t sure where that is anymore
- You question your identity, your decision, or your direction
- You’re back from abroad and feel lost, disappointed or out of place
Transitions take time
Moving countries – or returning – is more than just packing and unpacking. It’s an emotional process:
- Letting go and starting over
- Losing routines, language, or support systems
- Adapting to new roles, expectations or environments
- Sometimes feeling like you’ve lost parts of yourself
In my practice, I support you through these transitions – at your pace, with clarity, empathy and psychological expertise.
Whether you're newly abroad, returning home, or somewhere in between:
You don’t have to go through this alone.
How I work
Every person is different – and so is every journey. That’s why I don’t follow a one-size-fits-all method. Instead, I listen closely to what you need, and we decide together what might be helpful.
Sometimes that means looking at your thoughts – especially the ones that go in circles or bring you down. Sometimes it’s about making space for emotions that feel too much, or too stuck. And sometimes, it helps to get out of your head and notice what your body is telling you – like tension, numbness, or that knot in your stomach.
In our sessions, we might:
- sort through confusing feelings or thoughts
- look at patterns that keep repeating in your life
- explore what really matters to you
- find ways to deal with stress, uncertainty, or pressure
- practice how to stay steady when things feel shaky
It’s okay if you don’t have the words for what’s going on. You don’t need to explain everything perfectly. We take it step by step – at your pace, in a way that feels safe and respectful.
For expats, returnees & internationally mobile people

Whether you’ve just moved, are preparing to return home, or feel stuck somewhere in between – your experience is valid.
I offer sessions in English, German or Norwegian, online or in my practice in Innsbruck.
You don’t have to have it all figured out – just bring yourself.
